The Bachelor of Science in Public Health Program examines various aspects of population health at local, national and international levels with respect to the aims specific to the discipline of public health. The Program, as aligned with the Public Health Skills and Career explores ways of measuring health and disease, and improving the health and wellbeing of groups of individuals (e.g. those in a specific geographical area, those with a specific disease, those from a particular ethnic community), preventing and minimizing the consequence of disease, prolonging valued life and reducing inequalities Health is an exciting, dynamic and multi-‐disciplinary area of study, and public health focuses on the health of populations, locally and globally.

For this degree Prospective students must hold:

1.  Full grade twelve certificate (English, Mathematics, Biology plus one Science and any other subject ) with credit or better.

2.  Completed A Levels

3.  Equivalent health related qualification (Diploma of Clinical medical sciences, Diploma in Environmental Sciences, Diploma in Laboratory Sciences, and Diploma in Dentistry, Ophthalmology and Diploma in Social Work, Diploma in counselling).

4. Bachelor’s degree in any related field (Nursing, Social work, Clinical Medicine etc.)

 

ALL in service who have done a diploma in medical sciences; these cadres are clinical officer General, Environmental Health Technologist, pharmacy Technology, Diploma in Nursing, Radiographer. These cadres have a medical background, and most of the courses that are covered in the first year first semester and first year second semester were covered during their diploma level.

Knowledge is assessed by written seen and unseen examinations. These include;
  • Standard essay sand extended essays or short pieces of coursework
  • Individual and group presentations
  • Poster presentations
  • Group reports
  • Project work
  • Portfolios
  • Data analysis and interpretation activities
  • Library exercises
  • A combination of formative and summative assessments (i.e. quizzes).

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

The expected duration of this program is 1 years when attended full time and 1 years plus under distance with each semester having a minimum of 22 weeks of learning
